I am a pianist and composer based in Copenhagen, Denmark. I primarily perform music based in the Celtic and Scandinavian traditions, though elements of Latin and contemporary jazz often make an appearance. My arrangements and compositions have won acclaim for their evocative imagery and innovation while remaining true to the spirit of traditional music.
Currently I am composer and sound designer for the musical adventure game Shrug Island, which is developed by the visual artist Alina Constantin. The game will be released by Tiny Red Camel, the studio we founded to develop whimsical visual and audio productions.
Over the years I’ve collaborated with a variety of wonderful musicians. Currently I am working on a project with the American fiddler Athena Tergis as well as accompanying the singer Lukas Graham. Previously I was in the duo Fromseier Rose, with Ditte Fromseier Mortensen on violin. Our CD, Contradiction, was nominated for a Danish Folk Music Grammy. You can listen to music samples from these and other projects in the Music section of the site.
My long term goal is to have a line in my technical rider which states “Michael G. Rose plays Steinway Pianos exclusively”. I particularly enjoys playing gigs in warm countries with good food.
